When Your Ranking Changes

Your ranking points only change when:

  • You play a competitive match (not casual/open matches)
  • The match is completed with an approved score
  • You were an active participant (did not leave the match)

How Points Are Calculated

Your ranking points change based on two factors:

1. Base Points (Team Strength Difference)

The system calculates the total ranking points for each team (sum of both players) and determines the difference. The bigger the upset, the more points at stake.

🏆 When Your Team WINS

Team DifferencePoints Gained
Opponent 2500+ pts stronger+100 pts (massive upset!)
Opponent 1500-2499 pts stronger+75 pts (big upset)
Opponent 500-1499 pts stronger+50 pts (upset)
Teams within 500 pts+25 pts (expected)
Opponent 500-1499 pts weaker+10 pts (expected)
Opponent 1500+ pts weaker+5 pts (expected)

😔 When Your Team LOSES

Team DifferencePoints Lost
Opponent 1500+ pts stronger-0 pts (protected)
Opponent 500-1499 pts stronger-5 pts (expected)
Teams within 500 pts-25 pts (bad loss)
Opponent 500-1499 pts weaker-50 pts (very bad)
Opponent 1500-2499 pts weaker-75 pts (terrible)
Opponent 2500+ pts weaker-100 pts (crushing loss)

2. Score Bonus (Match Dominance)

Bonus points are awarded based on game differential across all sets. Count total games won by each team and calculate the difference.

Example: Score of 6-0, 6-1 = (6+6) - (0+1) = 11 game differential

Game DifferentialBonus PointsDescription
10+ games+10 ptsCrushing win
7-9 games+7 ptsStrong win
4-6 games+5 ptsSolid win
2-3 games+3 ptsClose win
0-1 games+0 ptsVery close

How Bonus is Applied:

  • Winners: Base points + bonus
  • Losers: Base points - bonus (extra penalty!)

Final Points = Base Points ± Score Bonus

  • Winners: Add the score bonus to base points
  • Losers: Subtract the score bonus from base points
  • All 4 players get updated simultaneously
  • Points can go negative if you lose enough matches

Example Scenarios

Example 1: Close Match Between Equal Teams

  • Team 1: 8830 pts total
  • Team 2: 8620 pts total
  • Difference: 210 pts (Team 1 slightly stronger)
  • Score: 7-6, 7-6 (Team 1 wins)
  • Game Differential: (7+7) - (6+6) = 2 games
  • Calculation:
  • • Base points (within 500 pts): ±25 pts
  • • Score bonus (2 games): +3 pts
  • Result:
  • ✓ Team 1 (each player): +25 + 3 = +28 pts
  • ✗ Team 2 (each player): -25 - 3 = -28 pts

Example 2: Upset Victory (Weaker Team Wins!)

  • Team 1: 9300 pts total (stronger)
  • Team 2: 7400 pts total (weaker)
  • Difference: 1900 pts (Team 1 much stronger)
  • Score: 6-4, 6-3 (Team 2 wins - upset!)
  • Game Differential: (6+6) - (4+3) = 5 games
  • Calculation:
  • • Base points (1500-2499 diff): +75/-75 pts
  • • Score bonus (5 games): +5 pts
  • Result:
  • ✓ Team 2 (each player): +75 + 5 = +80 pts (big reward!)
  • ✗ Team 1 (each player): -75 - 5 = -80 pts (harsh penalty)

Example 3: Protected Loss (Much Stronger Opponent)

  • Team 1: 9300 pts total (much stronger)
  • Team 2: 7400 pts total (weaker)
  • Difference: 1900 pts
  • Score: 6-2, 6-1 (Team 1 wins - expected)
  • Game Differential: (6+6) - (2+1) = 9 games
  • Calculation:
  • • Base points: +5/-0 pts (Team 2 protected!)
  • • Score bonus (9 games): +7 pts
  • Result:
  • ✓ Team 1 (each player): +5 + 7 = +12 pts
  • ✗ Team 2 (each player): -0 - 7 = -7 pts (still lose some due to bonus)
